Flashing is the whole job

A window is not waterproof because it is a window. It is waterproof because of how it was flashed and sealed into the wall around it: the sill pan underneath, the house wrap lapped in the right order, the tape at the head. Get that sequence wrong and water runs behind the siding instead of down the face of it.

The failure is slow and invisible. By the time you see a stain on the drywall inside, the sheathing behind it has usually been wet for a couple of years. This is why Alec will not rush an install to hit a number.

Siding

• Full siding replacement and partial repairs

A word on the pressure

Siding and windows are the two categories with the most high-pressure sales operations in them, the ones with the same-day discount that disappears if you do not sign tonight. Alec does not work that way. You get a number, the number stays the number, and you take as long as you want to think about it.
