Bathroom Remodeling

Full bathroom remodels, from a dated hall bath brought current to a master suite taken back to the studs. Built to stay right behind the tile, not just look good on handover day.

What a full bathroom remodel covers

Most of the bathrooms Alec works on get taken back to the studs. That is the only honest way to fix a room where the real problem is behind the tile: a rotted bottom plate, a pan that never drained right, or a wall that was never waterproofed in the first place.

  • Demolition and haul-off
  • Framing changes, including bumping a wall, widening a doorway or building a new shower
  • Waterproofing membrane on walls and pan
  • Custom tile showers with benches, niches, curbless entries and steam enclosures
  • Tile floors, including heated floor systems
  • Vanities, tops, mirrors and lighting
  • Trim, paint and final fixtures

Custom tile showers

A custom shower is not a kit. It is a waterproofed box built to the dimensions of your room, with the bench, the niches and the glass laid out before anything gets set. Alec dry-lays the pattern first so you can see where the cuts land, because once the thinset is on the wall that decision is made.

Benches and seats get built as part of the structure and waterproofed with everything else. Niches get centered on the wall they live on, and sized to the tile so the borders come out even instead of ending in a sliver.

The part you will never see

Tile and grout are not waterproof. Water passes straight through both of them and lands on whatever is underneath. That is why the membrane matters more than the tile does, and why a shower that looked fine for three years can suddenly rot out a wall.

Every IronWood shower gets a full waterproofing membrane on the walls and pan, a mud bed sloped evenly to the drain from all directions, and a level check before any tile goes down. It costs more up front. It is the difference between a shower that lasts twenty years and one that gets torn out in five.

Half baths, guest baths and hall baths

Not every bathroom needs to be a master suite. Alec does plenty of smaller jobs: a tub-to-shower conversion, a tub surround retiled, a dated hall bath brought current. If you are not sure whether your job is big enough to bother calling about, call anyway.
